Just a quick note... In looking for the "Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Mathematical and physical sciences", I found the catalog entry for this title. But the entry gives the impression that we don't have electronic access beyond 1990, but when I went to the Royal Society's web page for other publications and hunted around, I was able to get electronic access to more recent articles. Perhaps the page could be updated.
Library response: The problem with this title is that it is a journal that keeps changing its name. So it had the name below to 1990 and then another name from 1990-1995 and then a third name after 1996. We do have all volumes of the electronic version of this title up to the present. I'm including the technical services staff in this email, because I think they do have a mistake in the cataloging record of this title that would have made it easier for you to follow through on finding this title online. FIX YOUR ELECTRONIC RESERVES PLEASE!!!!! I am getting to the point where I would rather have students pay a higher cost (with classnotes) then rely on electronic reserves. It worked at 12:45 PM but not 1:20 PM when I was in my class about to show students the syllabus and required readings
Library response: (see message below)

Thank you for fixing the reserve problem. It was just terrible timing this afternoon.
Library response: E-Reserves was down for a little while, but they came up quickly. Vicki Mills, Undergraduate Services Team

AAAARRRGGGG!!!!!! Some evil person left HORRIBLE spanish music playing in the background and I CAN'T TURN IT OFF!!! I'M ABOUT TO LOSE MY MIND. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE HORRIBLE MUSIC SO YOU CAN TURN IT OFF IMMEDIATELY!!
Library response: Thanks for telling us about this computer problem, we will get it fixed. In the future, rebooting a computer will usually fix these kinds of problems. Anyone can reboot a computer, if you don't know how, just ask someone working in the area how to do it. The problem I have when I get a complaint like this is I don't have clue where the offending computer is -- but if these complaints are made in person at the closest desk, then they can be fixed much more quickly. I am really sick and tired of this library having NO consideration for people who don't have perfect vision. I had to BUY magnifying glasses to be able to read the TINY TINY print and they give me a headache. When I brought this up to your staff - who incidentally were more interested in gossiping about their love lives than doing their jobs - they were extremely rude and unconcerned about the patronts. I know it's useless to try to give you people any "feedback" so maybe you should elimnate the feed back form and just put up signs saying don't bother us, we don't give a dam!
Library response: The library has tried to design our web pages and set the default font on computers to accommodate the majority of our users. However, you can change this. If you are using a computer in the Information Commons you may be getting a font size that was reset by a previous user. If someone has changed the default font size you can restore defaults by rebooting the machine. You can change the text size in web browsers.
Firefox: Hold the control key and press the plus key Internet Explorer: From the browser's menu, select View | Text size and choose larger or largest as you prefer. Gene Spesard, Digital Library Information & Systems Team

people are very rude here they talk on there phones for hours disturbing everyone in the room this should not NOT be allowed
Library response: I apologize for your inconvenience. There are areas in the Information Commons that are not considered "quiet areas." If you wish to study in a quiet area, there are several places throughout the Library that are considered Quiet Zones. If the disruption is taking place in a Quiet Zone, feel free to let a staff member know. Vicki Mills, Undergraduate Services Team

I am writing to complain about the photocopiers that have been installed in the Main and Science libraries over the past year or so. As far as I can tell, it is not possible to make 2-sided copies on them. I have tried every possible button AND have consulted two Science Library librarians and one Main library librarian, all of whom told me that it's impossible to make 2-sided copies on these machines. If I am wrong, please correct me and let me know how to do this. If I am correct, I have to ask WHY on earth the library would purchase machines that can't perform what is nowadays a very basic operation for photocopiers? It cuts down on paper wasted and allows users to avoid doubling the weight of their photocopying. What's more, these machines are extremely slow to spit out the page being copied, and unlike the machines of 4 or 5 years ago, do not allow the user to hit the copy button to copy the next image while the machine is still issuing the previous page, which also lengthens the process.
Library response: Thank you for your comment. First, I want to apologize and address your concerns. All the self serve copiers do have double sided capabilities. I am sorry you received wrong information and I will make sure to address this with all library employees. However, this function is not as easy as our last contracted copiers with Xerox. With the old copiers, it was a simple touch of a button to duplex. This new set of copiers is a bit more manual, but very possible. There is a bypass tray on the left side of the copier that you would use to send the other side through for double sided copies. It was an issue I addressed when we renewed our contract with Xerox. I did give Xerox this feedback regarding the difficulty in the double sided feature on these models. Due to budget cuts all across campus and to keep the cost per page at .10 a decision was made to go with these simplified copiers. Our copy volume has decreased by 30% compared to last year and will continue to decrease. This decrease is mainly because more people are printing electronic documents rather than copying from a book. A large majority of our customers use the copiers for simple page to page copying. I certainly understand your comment and agree with you that these days, these functions you mention should be considered and I promise you that it was a huge concern when we renewed our contract. However, I had to weight the benefits between ease and capabilities against cost.

The issue about not being able to hit the copy button while in the middle of processing a copy, I don't remember the other copiers being able to do this. I checked with another employee in case I was wrong about this and he says this was not possible with the other copiers either. However, at one time, we did have a copier with a feeder on it that was a slightly different model that did allow you to proceed with your next copy. Unfortunately, we had issues with customers grabbing the feeder incorrectly to lift the lid and causing the feeder to break several times. We ended up removing that copier from the floor because it was costly to constantly replace the feeder.

I hope this addresses your concerns. If you need us to demonstrate the double sided feature on the copiers, please stop by the Express Document Center at the Main Library and ask for me or any of my employees can help. We will be happy to show you. Or, our staff at Main or Science can make the copies for you.

Again, thank you for your comment. I truly appreciate your feedback. Deborah Quintana, Office Supervisor, Express Document Center

To whom it may concern, The temperature in the ILC is ridiculously cold. My fingers are blue and I must tuck my bare feet beneath my butt to keep them warm. Because of this, I can hardly keep my focus on my work (I'm writing this instead of my paper). Also, when its 105 outside, how much energy does it take to keep 30,000 square feet 40 degrees cooler? Please cut it out, put the thermostat somewhere reasonable (77-82) and let me get back to work before I start losing appendages. Thanks.
Library response: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I agree that the temperature in the Main Library is cold. There are two reasons for that; one is that we need to preserve our collection of books which require a temperature of 67 degrees Fahrenheit, the other reason is that our AC system works in conjunction with the temperature outside and adjusts itself automatically. So, if there are sudden changes the thermostats do not adjust immediately. The thermostat is currently at 72 degrees and for the preservation of our collection and the equipment we need to keep it at 72.

I sincerely apologize that you cannot focus on your work and hope that you will not lose any appendages. Please call me at 307-2820 next time you feel very cold and I will try to show you an area that is relatively warmer. Thanks again, Hayri Yildirim, Facilities Management

What is the cost per hour of study, i.e., I want to take 6 semester hours, what is the charge per hour?
Library response: You can look at the website below and it will give costs per hour of study:

http://www.bursar.arizona.edu/students/fees/index.asp?term=074&feetype=na&feerate=all

The rates vary depending on whether you are an Arizona resident or out-of-state resident, undergraduate or graduate student and in some cases on the classes you are taking -- some program of study are more expensive than others. At the site above, I just chose "undergraduate regular" and "resident" and the cost for 6 units was approximately $1,611.92. That cost includes all the fees you would have to pay, but it doesn't include the cost of your books.

This information comes from the Bursar's Office website. If you would like to contact them for more information, call (520) 621-3232. Vicki Mills, Undergraduate Services Team
