2. Search the UA Library Catalog using a title search. Copy and paste the title in the ESTC record into the title search box of the Library Catalog.

3. If the only item listed in the catalog is a microfilm edition, you can locate the microfilm number through the ESTC record in the Surrogates field.

ESTC Record Surrogate Field

Surrogates Field:
Microfilm. Ann Arbor, Mich. University Microfilms, 1999. 1 microfilm reel ; 35 mm. (Early English books, 1641-1700; 2100:14).

Items published before 1640 will be found at Microfilm 420 (Main Library, First Floor, 1C compact shelving).

Items published between 1641-1700, will be find at Microfilm 421 (Main Library, First Floor, 1C compact shelving).

Look at your Surrogates field again, the number after the dates indicate the reel number, and position on the reel.

(Early English books, 1641-1700; 2100:14). This item can be found on Microfilm 421, reel 2100, position 14.

4. Some ESTC items published before 1700 are also listed in the UA Library Catalog, but not all. If ESTC record indicates in the Surrogates field that it is part of the "Early English Books" series, and gives a reel and position number, it will be part of either Microfilm 420 or Microfilm 421.

5. For ESTC items published after 1700, check the Library Catalog by title or author to see if UA library has an online or print edition. There are no microfilm editions in the UA Library for items published after 1700.

6. If the item is not available at the UA Library, request the item through Interlibrary Loan.
