General Biographies
American National Biography - The American National Biography offers full text portraits of more than 17,500 [deceased] men and women from all eras and walks of life whose lives have shaped the nation. Includes about 7000 biographies not found in the earlier Dictionary of American Biography [which was also published under auspices of the ACLS]. Searchable by name, gender, occupation, birth date, birthplace, death date, contributor's name and/or words/phrases in the full text. Approximately 125 new biographies added each quarter. (Wilson) Biography Reference Bank - Biography Reference Bank contains narrative profiles of over a half million people. Included are the original profiles of Wilson Biographies Plus Illustrated (covering many print volumes of biographical reference books published by H. W. Wilson and others, including all volumes of Current Biography), combined with periodicals coverage of Biography Index and full text articles, page images, and abstracts from the complete range of Wilson databases. Biography & Genealogy Index - An index to hundreds of sources with biographical information on people worldwide and from all time periods. You will need to consult the UA Library Catalog to find the call number for each information source. (Available only to UA.)
Encyclopedia of World Biography. 2nd ed. (Available in Gale Virtual Reference Library.) Brings together nearly 7000 biographical entries from the complete 1st edition of McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of World Biography plus supplemental volumes published through 2004. (Available only to UA.)
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography - The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography provides signed biographies of 50,000 men and women who have shaped all aspects of British history from the earliest times up to the present. It is searchable by name, full text, references, contributors, images, and may also be browsed alphabetically by name, or by themes. (Available only to UA.)
Biographical Dictionary - Contains biographical information on over 25,000 notable men and women who have shaped our world from ancient times to the present day. Information contained in the Dictionary includes birth and death years, professions, positions held, literary and artistic works and other achievements.
Biography - Cable's A&E television series is also searchable on the web. Over 15,000 biographical entries are provided for current and historical personalities.

Literature Resource Center - Provides reference materials on authors of both fiction and nonfiction. Includes bibliographical and biographical information, literary criticism and contextual information. Access by author, title, genre, literary movement or theme. Hispanic Americans in Congress, 1822-1995 - Prepared under the direction of the Joint Committee on Printing, U.S. Government Printing Office. This web site provides comprehensive biographical information of all Hispanic Americans in Congress between 1822-1995. Stresses the important legislative accomplishments each congressperson achieved while in office.
New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians Online - The New Grove Dictionary of Music is universally acknowledged as the unsurpassed authority on all aspects of music. Included are biographical articles on musicians and composers from all periods of history. (Available only to UA.)
Nobel Peace Prize Winners - A listing of Noble Peace Prize Winners from 1901 on. Whenever possible, links to other important web sites about the recipient are listed.
North American Indian Biographical Database - Full text resource for biographical information on indigenous peoples from all areas of North America. It includes text, images and video clips. (Available only to UA.)
People in the West - Interactive biographical dictionary provides "concise profiles of men and women portrayed in the west." Some individuals from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds are included.
Presidents of the United States - Biographies and cross references for all 41 presidents from Washington to Clinton. Information includes other presidential internet sites and includes speeches, writings and video clips. Created by Bob Summers (potus@ipl.org).
Rulers - Contains lists of heads of state and heads of government (and, in certain cases, de facto leaders which don't occupy either of those formal positions) of all currently existing countries and territories. Foreign ministers of all countries are listed separately.
