Alternataive Press Index
A database that indexes all articles of 5 or more paragraphs in approximately 250 alternative, radical and left publications that focus on social, political, economic, and environmental causes. Subjects covered include: racial and gender issues, gay and lesbian studies, labor, ecology, political organizations, and more. 1991-present.

America: History and Life
A database of article abstracts and citations of reviews covering the scholarly literature of U.S. & Canadian history. Includes regional history journals, book reviews & dissertations. 1954-present.

Anthropology Plus
A database that indexes and brings together anthropological literature from Anthropology Index from the Harvard Tozzer Library and Anthropological Index from the Royal Anthropological Institute in the UK. It covers the fields of social, cultural, physical, biological and linguistic anthropology; ethnology, archaeology, folklore, material culture and interdisciplinary studies. Data from the Anthropology Index begins in the late 19th century. Data from the Anthropological Index begins in 1957.

Arts & Humanities Citation Index (online)
A citation only database and index to core journal articles through cited works in the fine arts and humanities, including archaeology, art, Asian studies, classics, dance, film, folklore, history, language and literature, linguistics, music, theater, and classics. The library's print copy covers the gap in coverage before the online system. 1990-present.

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials
A database index of literature on all religious traditions, with particularly strong coverage of Judaism and Christianity. Sources include books, journal articles, book reviews, essays and Doctor of Ministry projects.1949-present.

Bibliographic Guide to Black Studies - E185.5 .B535 Main Ref.
A reference resource that lists current publications cataloged by the New York Public Library's renowned Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

Black Drama - 1850-Present
Black Drama contains the full-text of 1,200 plays written from the mid-1800s to the present by more than 100 playwrights from North America, English-speaking Africa, the Caribbean, and other African diaspora countries. Many of the works are rare, hard to find, or out of print. 1850-present.

Black Short Fiction
A database with a collection of more than 8,000 full-text African and African-Diaspora short stories from more than 15 countries with additional special units of French and Portuguese literature from the African continent. In addition, the collection includes literature in languages that have their origins in African countries and are still present in some regions today, such as the Gullah language of South Carolina. The database features previously uncollected works and unpublished manuscripts by many authors. Fables and folktales are also widely represented within the collection. 1950-present.

Black Studies Center

Black Studies Center is a cross-searchable gateway to Black Studies including scholarly essays, recent periodicals, and historical newspaper articles. It combines several resources for research and teaching in Black Studies: Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience, International Index to Black Periodicals (IIBP), The Chicago Defender, and the Black Literature Index.

Black Studies Database: Kaiser Index to Black Resources, 1948-1986
A database based on the Schomburg Center collection with citations from significant journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, pamphlets and reports relevant to the entire history and culture of the Black experience that was published between 1938-1986. E185 .K25 1992 Main Ref. A five-volume set also from the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture listing resources for African-Americans.

Black Thought and Culture
A database that includes full-text of non-fiction published works of leading African Americans from 84 sources by 36 authors. Indexes material by author, sources, or influences on authors. Includes interviews, journal articles, letters, fugitive material, biographical essays, and an annotated bibliography of the sources. 1700-present.

Caribbean Literature

Caribbean Literature is a full-text searchable collection of poetry and fiction produced in the region during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the titles selected are numerous rare and hard-to-find works written in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, and various Creole languages. Future releases will also feature journals, reference works, and interviews with key writers. New content is uploaded on a biweekly basis, giving users immediate access to a steadily growing treasury of classic, rare, and contemporary literature. The database currently has over 7,000 pages.

Early American Newspapers Series I 1690-1876
A database of full-text early American newspapers featuring cover-to-cover reproductions of hundreds of historic newspapers, providing more than one million pages as fully text-searchable facsimile images. 1690-1876.

A database with full-text coverage from ethnic and minority newspapers and magazines.

Gale's Ready Reference Shelf
This database integrates 14 of Gale's most popular reference directories including the Encyclopedia of American Religion. It contains more than 320,000 listings for associations, research centers, publishers, publications (ranging from newspapers and newsletters to periodicals and directories), databases, television and radio stations, and more. Fully searchable across all files.

HarpWeek: The Civil War Era 1857-1865
Every page of Harper's Weekly magazine is accessible in an electronic reproduced full-text format for the years 1857-1865. Permits retrieval of Harper's Weekly content through four cumulative indexes: subject, illustration, literature and publishing, and advertising. Printing of the oversize images of Harpweek pages on Windows computers is supported by a special helper program. Click here to download it. Historical Abstracts. Provides bibliographical coverage of the history of the world from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada). Included are article abstracts from over 2,000 journals published worldwide, plus citations to books and dissertations.

Humanities International Complete
A database index of the humanities literature, with abstracts and some full-text of articles in archaeology, art, classical studies, folklore, history, journalism, language and literature, linguistics, performing arts, political criticism, philosophy, and religion. 1984-present.

Index Islamicus
The database indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world. Produced by the Islamic Bibliography Unit at Cambridge University Library, material cited in the Index Islamicus includes not only work written about the Middle East, but also about the other main Muslim areas of Asia and Africa, plus Muslim minorities elsewhere. The database contains more than 241,000 records. 1906-present.

Index to American Periodicals
A database index to magazine articles from 1700-1900. Refers one to a microfilm collection. 1700-1900.

General OneFile (replacement for Expanded Academic ASAP)
This is an interdisciplinary index to journals in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. A one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social sciences, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Indexes 9,000 journals and magazines of interest plus the New York Times. Some full-text available for over 5,000 titles, many with images. Some indexing begins with1980; varies by title. Updated daily.

Ingenta
A full-text database of current article information taken from more than 17,000 multidisciplinary journals. Contains brief descriptive information. Fall 1988-present.

International Index to Music Periodicals
IIMP includes more than 500,000 indexed articles, plus detailed article abstracts from more than 370 international music periodicals from over 20 countries, from the most scholarly studies on performance, theory and composition to music education, jazz, ethnomusicology and the popular. Includes feature articles and obituaries. Features selected full-text of articles in 26 music journals, 1997 to the present. 1874-present.

International Index to the Performing Arts
IIPA covers the disciplines of dance, film, drama/theater, stagecraft, broadcast arts, circus performance, comedy, storytelling, pantomime, puppetry, magic, and the performance business from 1864 to the present.  It contains nearly 300,000 indexed articles, plus detailed abstracts and some full-text. Abstracts are provided for every citation from 1998 forward.

JSTOR
The JSTOR (Journal STORage) database provides access to the full-text back files of selected multidisciplinary journals. The database contains a digitized image of every page and is searchable by every word. The UA Library subscribes to the Arts & Sciences I, Arts & Sciences II, Business, Ecology & Botany, General Science Collections and Language & Literature Collection.  (One of our most popular databases...and a great place to start most searches!)

Literature Online
A fully searchable full-text database of over 200,000 works of English and American Literature. A master index to all of the databases is available. The databases are: African-American Poetry (1750-1900), Twentieth Century African-American Poetry(1901-1998), American Poetry(1600-1900), Twentieth Century American Poetry(1901-1997), Early English Prose Fiction(1500-1700), Eighteenth-Century Fiction (1700-1780), English Drama (1280-1915), English Poetry(600-1900), Modern Poetry(1972-1997). Also provides access to secondary sources including journal articles and books (some full-text).

Literature Resource Center
Provides reference materials on authors of both fiction and nonfiction. Includes bibliographical and biographical information, literary criticism and contextual information. Access by author, title, genre, literary movement or theme. Includes primarily full-text and excerpted text articles from major reference sources, scholarly journals, commissioned essays and interviews.  Contains information from: Contemporary Authors, Dictionary of Literary Biography, Contemporary Literary Criticism, Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism, Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism, Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism, Shakespeare Criticism, Drama Criticism, Poetry Criticism, Short Story Criticism, and Literature Criticism 1400-1800.

MLA Bibliography
Provides citations to published scholarly literature in linguistics, modern languages, literature, communicative behavior, and folklore. Detailed coverage of English, American, European, Asian, African, and Latin American literature. 1963-present.

Project Muse
Project MUSE was launched in 1995 by the Johns Hopkins University Press, in collaboration with the Milton S. Eisenhower Library at Johns Hopkins University, to offer the full-text of JHUP scholarly journals via the Web. In 1999, Muse expanded to become a unique partnership of not-for-profit publishers, increasing its ability to offer essential periodicals in the humanities, the arts, and the social sciences.  The African Studies collection includes: Africa Today (1999-); Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East (2004-); Eastern Africa Social Science Research Review (2002-); Northeast African Studies (1999-); Research in African Literatures (1999-); Transformation (Durban, South Africa : Online) (2002-); Transition (Kampala, Uganda : Online).

PsycARTICLES
Provides full-text articles on current issues in psychology from 1988 to the present. Includes more than 25,000 full-text articles from 42 journals published by the American Psychological Association and allied organizations. All journals included in this database are indexed in PsycINFO. 1988-present.

PsycINFO
Contains citations and abstracts to articles in journals, dissertations, and book chapters in all areas of psychology. Includes full-text and indexing of all articles from PscyARTICLES. 1887-present.

Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience
This unique database details the rich tapestry of the African experience throughout the Americas by exploring interdisciplinary topics through full-text in-depth essays created by experts in the field. Seminal research and timelines accompany each topic and images and film clips provide another dimension. The research offers both historical viewpoints and new methodologies to better understand the complex nature of Black Studies today.

Social Sciences Citation Index
A multidisciplinary database index to core journal articles and cited references in the social sciences. Includes some abstracts. 1956-present.
