University of Arizona Library Tips for Teachers: Enlightenment for Educators

Selecting, finding and evaluating the information you need for your research can sometimes seem overwhelming. This guide will help through some of the stages of the research process

 

Education-specific Indexes

ERIC (via EBSCOhost)
The ERIC database is the primary index in the field of education. It indexes articles in 1,300 journals. It also indexes more than 400,000 ERIC Documents, which include research reports, curriculum guides, and conference papers, and other unpublished material. Many ERIC Documents are available in full text, and some journal articles have full text links. ERIC is available in two full-featured search interfaces.

Education Abstracts Full Text
Finds article citations from over 470 education journals.  Starting in 1996, it includes full text articles from about 200 journals.

Chronicle of Higher Education
The major news source for higher education. Includes articles about research, statistical information from government sources and job opportunities.

 

Education-related Indexes

Dissertations and Theses - Full Text (Proquest) 1861-present
Dissertations published from 1980 forward include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Master's theses published from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. Includes full text of dissertations from 1996 to present

ENC Online

Some full text. Math and science curriculum materials (K-12). Reviews educational resources such as web sites, books, kits and videos. Provides links to many web resources. Also provides professional development materials for math and science teachers.

LLBA: Linguistics and Language BehaviorAbstracts
The database covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Complete coverage is also given to various fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical and geographical linguistics.

PsycINFO
Finds article citations (and more) in Psychology. Helpful for many topics in education, including learning theory, school psychology and counseling, and individual differences.

Sociological Abstracts
Finds article citations (and more) in Sociology.  Helpful for studying group behaviors and structures in Education.

SPORTDiscus
Finds article citations and web sites in sport, physical fitness, and physical education. Covers sports medicine, exercise physiology, sports psychology, coaching, nutrition, sociology of sports, recreation, games, and dance. Some full text and abstracts.

 

Multidisciplinary Indexes

Academic Search Complete (through EBSCOhost)
Multidisciplinary database that includes many full-text articles.

Children's Literature Comprehensive Database

"The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) is an acquisition, research, and reference service that offers more than 1,400,000 MARC records and more than 280,000 reviews of children's books--all full text searchable from 36 review sources."

Social Sciences Citation Index
Index to core journals and cited references in the social sciences.

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text
Index of all doctoral dissertations and some master's theses from UA, as well as most North American and many European colleges and universities, back as far as 1861. Full text available from 1996 forward. (A few pre-1996 titles are also available online.)

Current Research @ University of Arizona
Includes only the UA portion of the above database. Full text available from 1996 forward.
