ERes System Recommendations

Internet Browsers

We recommend using the latest versions of the following internet browsers:

Mozilla Firefox (free download at: http://www.mozilla.com/ )

Internet Explorer (free download at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx )

Netscape (free download at: http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp )

MAC SAFARI USERS

If you are using the Safari web browser and having diffulty with logging in or accessing coursepages, please try the following instructions:

1. Open your Safari browser, and then select "Preferences" from the "Safari" menu.
2. In the "Preferences" window click the "Security" icon and then the "Show Cookies" button.
3. Click the "Remove All" button and then click "Done".
4. Close the "Preferences" window and then quit Safari.
5. Restart Safari and try to recreate the problem by logging in or going to a coursepage.

PDF files

Acrobat Reader (version 6 or 7) is needed to view most of the readings on ERes. A free download of the Reader is available at:

Audio files

The majority of the audio selections on ERes have to be accessed through Real Player.  Windows Media Player or QuickTime WILL NOT work.

A free download of the latest version of Real Player is available at: http://www.real.com/freeplayer/?rppr=rnwk

Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) should also be enabled. To enable RTSP:

  1. Select Tools on the RealPlayer menu bar,
  2. Select Preferences
  3. A pop-up window will appear.  Select  the Content category, then and select Media Types
  4. Check the Other Media box, then select the Advanced button.
  5. Another pop-up window will appear. Scroll down to the Other Media  section, then check the box alongside Real-Time Streaming Protocol
  6. Select OK to save changes.

Off-campus access

Remote access to online journal entries is limited to UA students, staff, and faculty. A valid Cat Card number will be required for access unless you use VPN Client to connect via the campus network. More information.

MS Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files

Viewers enable people who don't have Microsoft Office installed on their computer to still access the various Microsoft files. Free downloads are available at:
